CHANGE, , v.i. To be altered; to undergo variation; as, men sometimes change for the better, often for the worse.

CHANGE, , n A succession of one thing in the place of another; vicissitude; as a change of seasons; a change of objects on a journey; a change of scenes.

(Definitions taken from Webster's 1828 Dictionary.)

I doubt that I am the only one fed up, tired, bored with the presidential campaign... and hey... it just got started!!!

And then there are the deep, serious, life changing themes... like "change."

Oh my, yes, please let's talk about change... how do YOU feel about change? How do others feel about change? How do you feel about the other's feelings about change? And how should I feel about your thoughts on change? And, again, please, let's hear about it... what was it... oh, right... change.

So, what the heck is everyone talking about?

What is change? And do we need to define "is" first?

One of the definitions we see above, says that change can be an external transformation... like changing clothes. You know, you can dress the swine in silk... but it is still a swine.

If this is what you mean by change, then we get the same garbage, but it just looks different. Like, we can have mashed potatoes, or baked potatoes, or potatos au-gratin, or scalloped potatoes, or fried potatoes... but in the end, it's still potatoes.

BUT... change can also mean to actually undergo some sort of transformation... from good to bad... So, instead of mashed potatoes, we now have mashed turnips.

Then there is the change that occurs when one thing transitions into another; as winter slowly melting into spring (unless you believe in global warming... in which case you never know what will melt into what so that you are always in a state of flux as to what to wear and if you need an umbrella or a snow shovel).

I personally like the "change of objects on a journey." Maybe because I like the flows of culture, scenery, events during life's journeys.

But, you know, who decided that "change" is automatically a positive thing?

We've seen that you can change for the worse. And, honestly, there are some things that should never change... like the love between a mother and her child... trust between a husband and a wife... security at home.

Sadly, some things that should never change, do.

But... it is reassuring to know that some things, don't.

The Hebrew word for change is shanah, meaning, "to repeat, do again, change, alter."

As a rule, according to the Bible, change is not necessarily a good thing, and thus, God says of Himself:

Mal 3:6 - "For I, the LORD, do not change"

Psa 89:34 "My covenant I will not violate, Nor will I alter the utterance of My lips."

In the midst of all this fascination... let's not forget that some things, should always remain the same.

Have a blessed week.
