FANTASY, n. the power or process of creating especially unrealistic or improbable mental images in response to psychological need (Merrian-Webster Online Dictionary) - mental images or imaginary narratives that distort or entirely depart from reality (Encyclopedia Britannica Online) No... I did not watch the whole loooong Oscars extravaganza.
I did watch some of it. I admit that I wanted to see Banderas and Santana perform the first ever Spanish song nominated for an Oscar. Apparently... it won. Hey... what can I say... I love Spanish music.
Still, I find it funny how much reverence and accolades are accorded the "hero" of the movie this particular song came from. Che Guevara is indeed a hero of mythological propostion in some circles... like Communist Cuba.
Ironically, one of Castro's pet peeves was the fact that Cuba had become the playground of Hollywood stars. All part of America's "exploitation" of the island nation. And, with Che by his side... Castro soon took care of that problem.
Born in Argentina, he was conferred Cuban citizenship in 1959. Soon, while running the National Bank of Cuba, he made sure industry was nationalized and land redistributed. Of course, the Hollywood elite was no longer welcome.
That is... until the "new and progressive" crowd decided that they were supporters of the enlightened Castro regime. It would be hysterical, if it wasn't so pathetically stupid. But. then again, Hollywood actors are the best example of high intellect and progressive thinking in modern America... aren't they?
