PA'PIST,n. A Roman catholic; one that adheres to the church of Rome and the authority of the pope. (All definitions taken from Webster's 1828 Dictionary) The College of Cardinals cast its final vote... and a new Pope was elected.
Pope Benedict XVI is a conservative man who will continue the path set by John Paul II. The liberals, Catholic and non-Catholic, grind their teeth and wring their hands. This Pope is not just conservative... he is VERY conservative.
In the end, there is still hope. Hope that in spite of all the pressures, all the lobbying, all the attempts at reformation from without, orthodoxy will prevail.
I don't know where most of you stand with regard to Roman Catholic doctrine. But, regardless of whether you agree or not with many of the tenets of this church, it is reassuring that this new Pope stands, like the previous one, for life.
In a world more and more fascinated and dominated by death and images of death. I am relieved that the leader of one of the largest Christian churches in this earth, stands for life. The Germans are upset... the "liberal" Catholics are upset... I, on the other hand, and other conservative Christians, am pleased.
If you are a praying person, please keep this new Pope, Benedict XVI, in your prayers.
Have a blessed week.
