We all have favorite books... favorite authors. My top three favorite books, next to the Bible, are Lilith, and C. S. Lewis' Till We Have Faces and Perelandra.

One recent book that will definitely be added to this list is The Barbarian Way.

Here is a quote from page 91, "Our goal must not be to populate the Christian religion but to bring people into a genuine relationship with God. We must make a clear distinction between the religion of Christianity and the revolution that Jesus began two thousand years ago."

Anyone familiar with me or my writings will quickly understand why I love that passage. In my opinion, Christianity is not for the fainthearted. I did not come to Christ to have an easy life, a blessed life. For me God has never been a "sugar daddy" pouring out of His abundance at my every request.

I became a Christian because I was searching for truth... and found myself confronting the fact that truth is not an idea, but a Person... and faced with that challenge, I could not but surrender myself to Him.

And surrender I did, for in my economy, BEING a Christian is the greatest adventure one could ever undertake. Yes there is abundance of joy, and there is incredible peace, but only as one embraces the challenges of having joined an army whose missions have eternal consequences, and whose foes are not flesh and blood.

Christianity is mystical, powerful, radical... and men have again and again tried to transform it into a safe, bland, way of life. In the end, those who embrace this impotent belief, will miss out on the greatest call, to be a valiant warrior in the Creator of the universe's army.

This, too is McManus' worldview, and his book is, as the jacket says, "...a call to revolution against 'civilized' Christianity."

I challenge you to explore this idea... whether you choose to read the book or not... stop and think...

Have a blessed week.

And, please, don't forget... the agencies that provide relief to those still in need, are still in need of YOUR help:

The Salvation Army, Operation Blessing, American Red Cross.
