LAN'GUAGE, n.
My first language, my mother tongue, is Spanish. So, yes, I am fully bilingual. Actually, I also know enough French for some VERY basic conversations... and a good meal. Everywhere I go, I meet people who complain about how they "took" this language or that in high-school, but can only remember a few words. And then there are the commentators, usually from the right, who mockingly try to present the increase presence of foreigners as the next big disaster for the American way of life. RELAX!
The truth is that English is becoming, if it is not already,the international language.
This will NOT result in hostile takeovers by aliens; and, no, we won't loose our national identity. Actually, I think that conservatives don't realize that there is a demographic group they are missing altogether. People who move here choose to do so. Ask most foreigners about government intrusion in their lives... about not being able to have the opportunity to create wealth through hard work... about not having opportunities for their children to have a better life... For these and many other reasons they moved here, to the land of the free. A country where hard work reaps benefits... where anyone can succeed... where your children's children can literally grow up to be presidents. A country founded by men who held...

endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life,
Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
But maybe the real language barrier we face here is not the immigrant's native tongue... maybe what we have here is a failure "to communicate the thoughts of one person to another." The conservative ideology is the ideology of almost every single immigrant. How did the left, espousing many of the values these men and women left behind gain their trust? Hmmmm... maybe the right needs to learn a new language... the language of clear communication.
