Duty

DISPOSSESS, v.t. To put out of possession, by any means; to deprive of the actual occupancy of a thing, particularly of land or real estate; to deseize.

DUTY, n. That which a person owes to another; that which a person is bound, by any natural, moral or legal obligation, to pay, do or perform.

OBE'DIENCE, n. Compliance with a command, prohibition or known law and rule of duty prescribed; the performance of what is required or enjoined by authority, or the abstaining from what is prohibited, in compliance with the command or prohibition. To constitute obedience, the act or forbearance to act must be in submission to authority; the command must be known to the person, and his compliance must be in consequence of it, or it is not obedience. Obedience is not synonymous with obsequiousness; the latter often implying meanness or servility, and obedience being merely a proper submission to authority. That which duty requires implies dignity of conduct rather than servility. Obedience may be voluntary or involuntary.

Israel is withdrawing from the Gaza Strip this week.

I don't know where you, dear reader, stand in this Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I'm not sure myself where I stand. I believe that there is an unfulfilled promise of land, for all eternity, to the descendants of Abraham. Yet, I am not sure that this promise is not to the "real" children of Abraham, children by faith, Christians and Messianic Jews.

Regardless, my heart is heavy, and full of sorrow at what is happening this week in Israel.

It may be because I do have a soft spot in my heart for young warriors. I honor and respect men and women who are willing to lay down their lives to defend a cause greater than themselves. In Israel, serving in the army is not an option, it is the law... but most young Israelis understand that it is a duty they must undertake for the very survival of their country.

This assignment, however, is different. This week, these young men and women are being asked to remove fellow Israelis from their land, land many of them believe was given as a promise by God Himself.

The families they are having to forcibly remove, have, like them, willingly stared death in the eye, believing that they are standing for something much greater than themselves.

So, this week, I ask those of you who believe in prayer, to pray. Please cover in prayers these young men and women...

And pray also for those men and women and children being dispossessed.

Mostly, pray for the men and women in authority, those issuing the orders, those issuing the edicts, the politicians, the administrators, the bureaucrats. Because, if this is the right plan for this time, they have blessed the land. But if they are operating out of false expectations, then they have just opened the gates of great cursing over the land.

Either way, no one is purposely trying to cause evil or bring doom. But those in authority and those who willingly submit to their authority, need a lot of wisdom and supernatural understanding.

We are living in strange times, perilous times, compromise and surrender may not be the best tactics... regardless, this is one time we all get to watch and see the outcome of man's efforts to bring about peace.

Stay tuned.

Have a blessed week.
