Caution

CAUTION, n. Provident care; prudence in regard to danger; wariness, consisting in a careful attention to the probable effects of a measure, and a judicious course of conduct to avoid evils and the arts of designing men.

Once again I get my inspiration from the local newspaper.

It seems that women are not liking all the gropping and "feeling" going on at some security check points at airports.

In one case, a columnist writes about her grandmother's experience while traveling to visit her. Poor elderly Grandma, she was randomly selected for the more "up close and personal" screening.

Mind you, Grandma did not complain... she willingly submitted.

And it was this small detail in the column that got me thinking.
What did Grandma know that her offended grandaughter didn't?
And, really, with so many people upset at the seemingly absurd detentions at these security points... is there a logic to this madness?

Then I remembered a chilling episode, back in March of this year. when Israeli forces reported detaining a mentally retarded adolescent who was carrying a vest full of explosives.
Some in the Arab media have since discounted the story as Israeli propaganda... but the point was made... terrorists can and will use anyone to accomplish their mad missions.

And, in August, two Russian passenger planes crashed. It is suspected that two Chechen women boarded these planes with explosives strapped to their underwear.

Were these bombers willing participants? Were they victims of coercion, of blackmail?

And see, that's the point.

Maybe Grandma knows something that her heartbroken grandaughter doesn't.
Elderly, saintly looking, soft, grandmothers are not, by definition all nice, outstanding, citizens.

Also, maybe Grandma knows one more thing... that some other grandmas could be easily blackmailed into doing horrific things for the sake of family.

In the real world, criminals, and terrorists come in all shapes and forms.

So, in the real world, I appreciate that we don't trust anyone based on their looks.

Bottom line, Grandma willingly submitted to the intrusive search because she wants EVERYONE to know that the Americans will check out EVERYONE.

And so, whether you are a sweet looking but hatred full elderly woman, or a terrorist holding a sweet looking elderly woman's grandson for ransom... in America, your looks will not stop the security personnel from making sure that you are not carrying explosives in your brassiere.

And for that, I bet you Grandma, like me, is grateful.

Have a blessed week.
